Influence of the
composition of CexZr1–xO2 hydrosols
on their rheological properties
Abstract
Annotation. CexZr1–xO2
hydrosols with different particle compositions (x = 0.8, x =
0.5, x = 0.2) were synthesized, for which flow curves were measured in a
wide range of concentrations and pH values of the dispersion medium. It was
found that under the conditions studied, CexZr1–xO2
hydrosols behave like Newtonian liquids. In this case, the Einstein equation is
observed in a fairly narrow range of concentrations of the dispersed phase.
Based on data on the density of particles and their effective volume
concentration, the influence of surface layers on the increase in the viscosity
of hydrosols was assessed. The influence of both primary and secondary electroviscous
effects was established, whose contribution to the measured viscosity of
hydrosols depends on the concentration of the dispersed phase, the pH of the
dispersion medium, and the composition of the particles.
