Diethyl-2-(4-nitrobenzyliden)malonate synthesis and it’s application for 2-methylmercaptoacetate detection by HPLC method

Abstract

Abstract. The basic requirements for an effective reagent in the pre-column derivatisation of organic substances with no chromophores are outlined. The study examined nitrofluorostyrenes, dichlorostyrenes, and diethyl-2-(4-nitrobenzylidene)malonate as potential new reagents. The latter was selected as the optimal reagent. The derivatisation of 2-methylmercaptoacetate as a test analyte was performed under mild conditions (20 minutes at room temperature). Complete reaction with formation of a single product was observed. The detection limit of 2-methylmercaptoacetate decreased 67-fold (to 15 ng/mL) compared to the initial limit.
