Rheology of structured liquids. “Neutonian” behavior

Abstract

Abstract. The behavior of low molecular weight non-Newtonian fluids (liquid paraffin, silicone oil, FC70 oil) in which shear thinning is observed at low shear rates is considered. Over a large range of high shear rates, a behavior similar to the “Newtonian” behavior is observed, where the shear viscosity is practically constant. An explanation of this type of “Newtonian” flow from the point of view of a structural rheological model is proposed.
Key words: rheology, structural rheological model, “Newtonian” behavior, high shear rates.
